The Holy Cross Neighborhood Association is having their annual 4th of July BBQ at "The Point" where the Industrial Canal meets the River in the Lower 9th Ward. I've been invited to spin fire before the fireworks, and am sending out an open invitation to all fire performers. These are wonderful people and The Point is one of the best fireworks-watching spots in the city. This is a non-paid gig, a gift of performance art to a big-hearted community that's rebounding after very hard times.
The BBQ goes from 6 to 9, food contributions accepted. It's in a large open space at the foot of Reynes St. We'll meet at 7:30 at the navigation light at the mouth of the Canal. Spinning will start at dusk and end when the fireworks start.
Bring white gas and fire safety equipment. Fire-safe natural fiber or leather clothing only please. Fire-safety helpers are welcome. We will run a tight, safe spin jam where we'll put on a great show while having lots of fun working together.
Burningly yours,
Andy Baker
