kapaali and I are going for the first time this year.
I was thinking of doing a new orleans burning man logo. then we could get shirts, hats, gifts etc printed.
who all is going? would anyone else be interested in buying a shirt. I can get them make at cafepress so we can just order them 1 at a time and don't have to pay a set up fee.

My spare funds will probably be going towards uberfun trips like BM at the moment, however I WOULD be super interested in seeing a Louisiana Burners camping trip happen sometime this year (and would love to help plan something of the sort)!

Hopefully see you on the playa, Becky!

Becky.. I think thats a great idea.. but participation may be limited.. if you haven't been to the Burn yet.. you may not have realized how much it actually costs to go.. I know personally.. It cost me about $5000 to go to the burn this last year. (thats, everything including 3 weeks off work w/out pay) of coarse that was a 3 week roadtrip.. 2 of which were at the burn (i helped build an art project)

I'd suggest reminding everyone of this after Mardi Gras and before everyone spends their money at Jazzfest.

Maybe have a silkscreen party and do our own sometime? As far as gifting.. most people prefer something hand crafted not store bought. (store bought but hand crafted modified works too...) you should also try to budget your gifting to around $1 an item.... then plan maybe 50 to 100 items to be comfortable. I have bought blank white bandana's that I tie dye and added a theme camp burning man logo to.. these have gone over well (everyone needs an extra dust mask, hair restrainer etc...)

    just my 3 peso's

I think you can do a burning man trip for a lot less than $5000. If you don't count lost wages, or take 3 weeks to drive.

      A quick and dirty budget
      300 flight
      240 ticket
      200 food and drink
300 car (divided by 2 people) (but there are ride share options for the adventurous who don't need to be in control)
50 Reno Hotel (Post event, optional)
      200 misc things

John is right, don't get too hung up on store bought gifts but I would like to see what you could come up with in a New Orleans Burningman logo... I've struggled with that for a while now....

And reecy. What are you thinking? Any ideas about where and when?

I would say you'll probably need to budget $500+ for supplies and camping gear, too, if you're not already stocked up with a tent, etc. But yeah, $5000 seems excessive. Last year was my first year and we WAY overpacked, and you will too. And that's okay.

Instead of jackin' this thread, I'm starting a new one about a campout. ;)

          My $5000 was all inclusive
driving from Louisiana last year cost me about $900 at $4+ a gallon..
$400 at today gas prices... (hopefully gas will stay low this year)
mind you if you drive you need 2 weeks one for the burn and at least 3 days there and 3 days back (I did RENO in 2 days going there)
I went in early to build an art project which is why I took 3 weeks.

if your like most of americans.. have a job without beni's... then I do figure in lost wages (afterall bills don't stop for burning man)

so without adding lost wages.. I was in for about $2500 (mind you I had extra's for my week in early)

I would also suggest adding $500 to $1000 for emergencies on the road (if driving).. should your car break down and you need a tow and repair (don't count on everyone taking a credit card in the middle of no where)
